I have learned of the abundance of oppoutunities in the field of biometrics.
Ms. Graves and Mr. Ross's presentations were very similar
I like the idea of facial recognition and maybe creating a contour map of the face.

One thing that I learned from bother Valerie and Arun is the difference between biometrics and forensics and that they ARE different. Often we see them as the same thing, but one can be used with the other, but not vice versa. One thing that I learned from Valerie was the long history of biometrics and how it has been around and in use much longer than most people know. One thing that I learned from Arun was that biometrics is here and will continuing to be a great and growing field.
One thing that will help me as a counselor to build a lesson is the contact with people in the industry such as Valerie and Arun who are the resources now since this is such as growing field.

I learned what the basic cocepts are of Biometrics. Both presentations showed me clearly what the concepts are and how they are being utilized currently in the world. Both presentations were good and informative, but having them both on the same day was difficult. A lab activity might have been a good idea for this afternoon.
I think that I will use this to provide my students ideas for future careers.

From Valerie and Dr. Ross' presentations, I learned that they are many types of biometric technologies that I did not know existed: keystrokes, 3-D facial imaging, and vein. I think it will be neat to form a lesson on students' unique traits as they are related to biometrics in history with some self reflection on that. Hopefully, activities in this lesson will help promote cultural awareness and self image in my lesson.

The introduction of the 4 modalities
the uses of biometrics in the world
also the struggles for privacy
the use of facial recognition
other: not much time for lesson plans

I learned about all the various biometrics systems that are now being used and how reliable each system is when using it. Also, spoofing was a brand new term to me. Dr. Ross added a lot about other biometrice systems that was not discussed in thed morning system. One idea that I want to use in my lesson plans is having students become aware of the problems of each system and the advantages of each system.

I am excited!!! I thought that I would have to buy the Biometrics for Dummies, but Valerie taught me everything I need to know about biometrics. I now have great ideas for my classroom. I will buy the "Puppy" finger scan for my computer.

Dr. Ross was very informative and I could not possibly list all of the things I learned from him but I did learn that no method of verification is fool proof.

I learned about the various types of recognition technology. I also learned about the errors that may occur in the recognition process and that biometrics is not foolproof.
Dr. Ross repeated alot of information but also provide more in depth view of some of the technology.
I may use the history of biometrics and the measurement of various body parts. Or look at ethical practices in biometrics

An intro to Biometrics. What it means and how it is used.
Dr. Arun ellaborated on the 4 modalities of Biomeyrics. Great examples were shared.
A better understanding of Biometrics gave me direction toward a lesson plan idea(s).

I learned about the differnet types of biometrics which I had heard about but had no clue as to what they looked like or how they were used. I also learned some new vocab such as throughput, false reject, and false accept.
I think Dr. Ross's presentation was very similar to Ms. Graves and could have been more beneficial if they had worked together.
Just learing about that the different types of biometric devices.

I learned many new terms today that will be beneficial in introducing Biometrics to my students. I also learned several of the most popular modualities in Biometrics...iris scanning, facial recognition, fingerprint analysis, and hand geometry. An idea I may use in my lesson plans is the information relating to minutia points when using finger print analysis.

I feel that today for me was just about understanding what biometrics is and its applications. Valerie and Dr. Ross covered some of the same information which helped to solidify the concepts. I believe the information will help me to generate excitement among students for this emerging new career area. I am excited to put together a plan for disseminating this information and also to continue to learn more about this field.

I learned about hand geometry, fingerprinting, facial analysis and iris identification. I also learned the difference b/w biometrics and forensics.
Dr. Aurun taught me about spoofing.
Looking on the net I found some web sites that may help me in my presentation.

The presentation got me interested in working with students in this new field. I am considering using a biometrics experiment during orientation to show the students how it used in everyday applications.

I learned so much that I feel like an expert compared to what I did not know before.
Just learning that biometrics use templates and not actual pictures of our body measurements was very revalant information.
It was very informing to know that errors are expected and measured for.

From both Valerie and Arun's presentations, I was surprised to learn about all the things that can go wrong with biometric devices. Not that anything is foolproof, but there seem to be a multitude of problems.
I didn't really have time to think much about lesson plans. It would be very helpful to know what kinds (if any) of devices we as teachers will have access to. Silly to write lesson plans that can't be implemented.

The question of abuse within the biomedical field concerns me. I wonder if the abuse would come from the government, medical insurance companies or other companies who want your personal information. The area of privacy is larger problem that needs to be looked at from all angles

Valerie did a great job of explaining what exactly biometrics is all about.
Mr. Ross made me aware of just how much information can be learned about me when I use the internet.
The teachers from MHS are helping me to put links into my lesson plan which is something I've never done before. Thanks!
